- best experienced from offshore by local vessel

On a journey with the Sarfaq Ittuk you will enjoy an intense travel experience. Lean back and savour the changing scenery, the field ice in South Greenland, the steep mountains near Hamborgersund channel and the great icebergs at Ilulissat. Watch the birds as they hunt for food. If the men on the bridge see a whale, they’ll be sure to let you know. It’s always easy to get chatting to local travellers up on deck, in the stern saloon or the cafeteria.

The Sarfaq Ittuk, a coastal passenger vessel, maintains a regular service along the west coast between Narsarsuaq and Ilulissat. The 700 nautical miles are covered in 72 hours, with friends and relatives meeting and parting on the quayside of every port. There is an opportunity to go ashore during most port calls. In Qaqortoq, Nuuk, Sisimiut and Ilulissat there is time for a walk around the town.

Although the vessel sleeps 270 passengers, there is plenty of room to entertain grand thoughts as you enjoy the scenic nature and fresh air. The ship is built to negotiate ice, and the skilled and service-minded crew have many years’ experience of sailing in Arctic ice. The majority of the ship’s crew are locals.

Cabin

Couchettes and compartments has shared facilities. Your cabin is on the outside, comfortably appointed with its own bathroom and toilet. There is a stern saloon and a TV room, and the cafeteria offers fine fare for everyone, not least the national drink of Greenland, coffee — or gaf-fi, as they say in Greenlandic. If coffee is not your thing, you can purchase Greenland beer on draught.
